Books we are Reading | April 2023

We got very busy here on the homestead from February to Late March but now we are catching up on our reading lists! My daughter is still reading books faster than I can keep track but next month I will have some recommendations from her! I am still using my Cottagecore Book Reading and Review Planner to keep up with my reading list! It is the perfect companion to my reading journey!

Most of the books on the list this month are from BookTok recommendations but a couple are from dear author friends of mine. I also have started a new podcast that talks all about the books I am reading and will feature some of the authors from these books! Make sure you go subscribe to Pagan’s Reading Nook!

So come join us with some of these titles this month!

As an Amazon Associate, I may earn a commission from qualifying purchases of featured products at no additional cost to you.

You can listen to me talk all about these books on my new podcast, Pagan's Reading Nook!

Adult Books (Fiction):

Alessa Grey is just an awkward teenage girl until the day she discovers that her dreams – and magic – are real. But just as Alessa is about to realize her full magical potential, a dark god invades her dreams in search of an ancient artifact that will give him the power to bring others like him to the world, and start a war that would ultimately destroy everything – and everyone – Alessa loves.

Written by Darrell Awards Coger Hall of Fame recipient Robin Burks, The Dream Seeker is ultimately a story about a teenage girl finding the courage to face her fears and save the day, all while dealing with loss, betrayal, and first love.

A thrilling adventure through a world of magic fueled by dreams for fans of Neil Gaiman’s The Books of Magic, Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, and L.J. Smith’s The Secret Circle.

I have already read this book and reviewed it! Check out the review here! This is one of the best books I have read to date in 2023!

Four beastly princes. One awkward bookworm. An enchanted world of fae, magic, and danger.

I’ve always loved fairytales. I never imagined I’d actually be in one.

When my father wanders into the enchanted realm of the fae, I know I have to go after him. And when he gets imprisoned, I’ll do anything to save him… Even trade my freedom for his. I had no idea I’d end up imprisoned by four sexy fae who turn into beasts at night.

I have to win my freedom, and that means making a bargain with them. They must find their mates in order to break the curse. If I can help them do that, they’ll set me free. Sounds simple, right?

It’s not. Because against my better judgment, I’m starting to fall for these beastly princes. One is smart and sweet, the other mysterious and deadly, another flirty and confident, and the last prince… He’s handsome, strong, has a wicked temper, and is dead-set against breaking the curse. Why does he want to keep me here forever?

But it’s not just my freedom on the line. If I don’t break the princes’ curse soon, all the magic in the Enchanted Vale will be stolen by the evil—and stupidly hot—Prince of Thorns. And I’m not letting my princes stay cursed.

Not after I’ve fallen in love with them.

BONDED BY THORNS is a steamy adult Beauty and the Beast retelling set in a fantasy fae realm. In this version, our beautiful bookworm doesn’t have to choose between the four sexy fae princes. It is a full-length novel that ends on a cliffhanger. It includes MF and MM content. It is intended for mature readers only.

I have seen videos all over TikTok for this book and I knew after the first video I had to have it! I am so excited to read it!

From BookTok sensation Emily McIntire comes a dark and delicious fractured fairy tale reimagining of Peter Pan.

He wants revenge, but he wants her more…

James has always had one agenda: destroy his enemy, Peter Michaels. When Peter’s twenty-year-old daughter Wendy shows up in James’s bar, he sees his way in. Seduce the girl and use her for his revenge. It’s the perfect plan, until things in James’s organization begin to crumble. Suddenly, he has to find the traitor in his midst, and his plan for revenge gets murkier as James starts to see Wendy as more than just a pawn in his game.

Wendy has been cloistered away most of her life by her wealthy cold father, but a spontaneous night out with friends turns into an intense and addictive love affair with the dark and brooding James. As much as she knows James is dangerous, Wendy can’t seem to shake her desire for him. But as their relationship grows more heated and she learns more about the world he moves in, she finds herself unsure if she’s falling for the man known as James or the monster known as Hook.

Hooked is another BookTok recommendation that is full of SPICE! I am excited to read it to see if it lives up to the hype.

When I was little, I was obsessed with fairytales. My dad told me the stories of the stars and white knights who rescue princesses. I’d wear a silver plastic crown and stare at the sky, waiting for the day my knight in shining armor would come.

Then my dad died, my crown broke, and my mom shipped my sister and me off to boarding school.

And then I met them.
My knights.
Only they’re nothing like the fairytales I grew up on. They’re wrapped in sin and shrouded in darkness. Bossy, protective, alphaholes.

And heirs to the Italian mafia.

Gilded Princess was another BookTok recommendation and I love a good mafia romance! I was so intrigued and knew I needed to add it to my TBR list!

Since Witches came out of the broom-closet in the early 21st century, they have worked alongside humans as police officers, healers, stock traders, and more. But they aren’t the only paranormal entities in our world…

Police officer and Witch Donata Santori spends her days interrogating dead witnesses by summoning their spectral forms. Normally the job is little more than taking statements and filing reports. But when she’s called in on the case of a murdered art restorer, she finds herself suddenly in possession of a mystical portrait that both the human and paranormal communities would kill to get their hands on.

Unable to take on the forces hunting her alone, Donata seeks help from two unlikely and attractive allies: a reluctant shape-changer and a half-dragon art forger. But as the three of them hurry to uncover the truth about the powerful painting, Donata realizes that she’s caught in the middle of not one but two wars—one for possession of the painting’s secrets and one for possession of her heart…

I love all of Deborah Blake’s works! She has been on my show Pagan’s Witchy Corner to talk about her non-fiction books but as soon as I get through this series she will be coming on Pagan’s Reading Nook to talk about this series!

This is truly happening, she thought, and I’m the sacrificial lamb.
But she didn’t belong here. She wasn’t one of them. She didn’t want to be a Maiden, a devil’s paramour.

Her parents kept secrets from her. But until Mel Morgan travels to Creek’s Hollow, those secrets stayed hidden away. Now, Mel discovers she comes from a long line of witches, and she’s been chosen to battle the evil that has invaded this tiny town and her life. As she uncovers shocking family secrets, Mel finds herself falling fast for the handsome sheriff and she forges friendships with a clairvoyant and a professor of the paranormal. But will Mel’s newly discovered witch powers be strong enough to defeat an evil relative and an even more sinister demon named Belial? She’s about to find out when all hell breaks loose.

I love a good witch series! I found this book on BookTok as well and knew it had to be on my TBR list!

In this atmospheric, terrifying novel that draws strongly from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, the author of Alice and The Girl in Red works her trademark magic, spinning an engaging and frightening new story from a classic tale.

Everyone in Sleepy Hollow knows about the Horseman, but no one really believes in him. Not even Ben Van Brunt’s grandfather, Brom Bones, who was there when it was said the Horseman chased the upstart Crane out of town. Brom says that’s just legend, the village gossips talking.

More than 30 years after those storied events, the village is a quiet place. Fourteen-year-old Ben loves to play “Sleepy Hollow boys”, reenacting the events Brom once lived through. But then Ben and a friend stumble across the headless body of a child in the woods near the village, and the discovery makes Ben question everything the adults in Sleepy Hollow have ever said. Could the Horseman be real after all? Or does something even more sinister stalk the woods?

I ordered this book on a whim because I love all things Sleepy Hollow! I am excited to dive deep into this book!
