For Kids (9 to 13):

Wings of Fire: Winter Turning (Wings of Fire Book #7)

Daring mission… or deadly mistake? Winter has been a disappointment to his royal IceWing family his whole life. When his sister, Icicle, runs away from Jade Mountain Academy, fleeing terrible crimes and possibly planning to commit more, Winter knows that they both need a second chance to make things right — if only he can find her. Winter’s new clawmates, Moon, Qibli, and Kinkajou, won’t let him make this dangerous journey alone. They don’t seem to understand that IceWings, the most superior of all dragon tribes, can fix their own problems. When their search leads the dragonets straight into Queen Scarlet’s vicious talons, Winter is grateful to have some help. But even the bravest dragons can’t follow him to the Ice Kingdom, where he’ll have to face the greatest threat of all: his own family.

My daughter absolutely loves these books! This series is one of her all time favorite series. If you have kids who love fantasy then these books are for you!

Game of Stars (Kiranmala and the Kingdom Beyond Book #2)

When the Demon Queen shows up in her bedroom, smelling of acid and surrounded by evil-looking bees, twelve-year-old Kiranmala is uninterested. After all, it’s been weeks since she last heard from her friends in the Kingdom Beyond, the alternate dimension where she was born as an Indian princess. But after a call to action over an interdimensional television station and a visit with some all-seeing birds, Kiran decides that she has to once again return to her homeland, where society is fraying, a terrible game show reigns supreme, and friends and foes alike are in danger. Everyone is running scared or imprisoned following the enactment of sudden and unfair rules of law. However, things are a lot less clear than the last time she was in the Kingdom Beyond. Kiran must once again solve riddles and battle her evil Serpent King father — all while figuring out who her true friends are, and what it really means to be a hero.

This is book two of the Kiranmala and the Kingdom beyond series and my daughter can’t get enough of this series! She read the second book so quickly she couldn’t put it down!

Isle of Winds

Robin Fellows lives with his grandmother and lives what appears to be a rather ordinary life for a normal twelve year old boy. But when Robin’s Gran dies, quite suddenly and a bit mysteriously, his world is turned upside down. A long lost relative comes out of the woodwork and whisks him away to a mysterious new home, Erlking Hall, a quiet estate in the solitary countryside of Lancashire.

Suddenly Robin must adjust to his new reality. But reality is no longer what he thought it was…

There is more than meets the eye to this old, rambling mansion. Little does he know that there is more than meets the eye to himself. Robin is the world’s last Changeling. He is descended from a mystic race of Fae-people, whose homeland, the Netherworlde, is caught in the throes of a terrible civil war.

Not only this, but in this new world there is a magical force that has infiltrated the human realm. Before he can wrench power from the malevolent hands of the Netherworlde’s fearsome tyrant leader, Lady Eris, he must first search for the truth about himself and the ethereal Towers of Arcania.

While this book is written for kids, I personally was so intrigued by the synopsis I had to read it for myself. It such a wonderful and captivating story sure to enchant adults as well as kids! I highly recommend this book!

Adults (Fiction):

From Storm and Shadow (Stormfae Book #1)

I will take this secret to my end.

Two years ago, the Guild of Guardians killed my parents for a crime they didn’t commit.

They tried to kill me too, but I got away.

I buried the past and made a new life for myself, hidden in a world not my own.

The human world, where faeries belong in stories and magic is unknown.

But now the Guild has found me.

He’s found me.

(The boy I once loved.) The boy who tried to kill me.

And this time … he wants my help.

“With magic, action, and delicious slow-burn tension, you won’t be able to stop turning the pages!”

This book is on my to be read list for this month but from the quick flip through that I did I am in love with it so far! I can’t wait to read the rest of it!

Fire & Blood

Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen—the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria—took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

What really happened during the Dance of the Dragons? Why was it so deadly to visit Valyria after the Doom? What were Maegor the Cruel’s worst crimes? What was it like in Westeros when dragons ruled the skies? These are but a few of the questions answered in this essential chronicle, as related by a learned maester of the Citadel and featuring more than eighty black-and-white illustrations by artist Doug Wheatley. Readers have glimpsed small parts of this narrative in such volumes as The World of Ice & Fire, but now, for the first time, the full tapestry of Targaryen history is revealed.

With all the scope and grandeur of Gibbon’s The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Fire & Blood is the first volume of the definitive two-part history of the Targaryens, giving readers a whole new appreciation for the dynamic, often bloody, and always fascinating history of Westeros.

In our house we are big fans of George R. R. Martin and his works. This book was a happy addition to our collection. If you are a fan of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon on HBO you will love this book!

Adults (Non-Fiction):
